Skin Type Identification Guide: Know Your Skin Type Easily

People take their skin type for granted, but for targeted skin care we often categorize people’s skin types into different types. You have to identify your skin type before you can figure out how to take care of your skin, what products to use, and how to achieve perfect skin.

Preparation Phase

Completely remove makeup. Use makeup remover to remove traces of makeup from your face. Get rid of the oil and dirt that build up during the day, leaving your skin looking brand new.

Wash your face. Wet your face with warm water and squeeze a dime-sized amount of gentle cleanser into the palm of your hand. Gently massage your face with your fingertips, making sure the cleanser and water cover your entire face. Wash your face thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water, then pat your face gently with a clean towel or cleansing pad.

  • Avoid washing your face too much to avoid drying out your skin.

Wait an hour. During this time, do not use any products on your face, such as moisturizers or acne treatments. Don’t touch your face with your hands. Your skin will soon return to its natural state, at which point your skin type can be determined based on its characteristics.

Determine Skin Type

Observe the size of your pores. If you have normal skin, the pores will be clearly visible but not very large. Take a few steps back in front of the mirror. If pores are still visible, you have oily skin. If you can’t see your pores, you have dry skin.

  • If your pores are of different sizes, it means you have a mixed skin type, which is a combination of oily, dry, and normal.

Apply tissue to your face. Pay attention to the T-zone, the area of your forehead and nose. Look at where the grease on the paper towel is coming from.

Determine your skin type. There are four skin types – normal, oily, dry and combination.

  • Normal skin is neither oily nor flaky. It should be soft and smooth. If you have this skin type, you should feel lucky!
  • The sign of oily skin is a lot of oil on the tissue. People with oily skin tend to have enlarged pores and are often shiny.
  • Dry skin may feel tight and flaky. The pores are smaller. Moisturizing is important for people with this skin type.
  • Combination skin is most common. It contains characteristics of the three skin types mentioned above. Typically, the T-zone is oily and the rest of the area is dry or neutral.

Understand what issues your skin may be facing. There are two possible skin problems, namely:

  • Sensitive skin. If you have sensitive skin, your face is prone to allergic reactions to common skin care products. This means you may experience redness, itchiness, or rashes when you use regular skin care products.
  • Acne skin. Even if you’re not a teenager, you may still get acne or blemishes, especially if you have oily skin. If you have acne-prone skin, look for the right anti-acne skin care products.

Consult a dermatologist. If you’re still unsure about your skin type, a dermatologist can answer your questions. They can provide some over-the-counter medications and basic regimens for treating acne.

Skin Care

Get to the root of the problem. To take targeted skin care, you need to understand what causes skin problems. Oily or dry skin may cause acne, and if you have sensitive skin, certain skin care products may cause skin irritation.

Dry skin needs more moisturizing. Apply unscented cream to dry areas of skin. When taking a shower, don’t overuse soap, and wash your face with warm water, not hot water.

  • Dry skin can also lead to dermatitis. In this case, you can treat the inflamed area with hydrocortisone ointment.

If you have oily skin, make sure you cleanse it morning and night. Wash your face with a mild cleanser and warm water for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Use skin care products containing benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid. Before trying any of these treatments or medications, buy a sample so you can test which one works best for your skin.

  • You can also use oil-absorbing papers to remove excess oil from your face. Place it on the oily area and press it for about 15 seconds to absorb some of the oil and reduce the shine on the face.
  • Don’t neglect moisturizing. Oily skin also needs moisturizing, preferably using an oil-free moisturizer.

Combination skin types require a balanced care regimen. Wash your face with a gentle, unscented facial cleanser and avoid soaps that contain harsh chemicals. Eat foods rich in fatty acids, including salmon, flax seeds, and walnuts, or take a fish oil supplement. This moisturizes the skin without adding oil.

Sensitive or acne-prone skin should use a soap-free cleanser. Use a gentle cleanser without added fragrance or chemicals to prevent skin irritation. Moisturizes your skin to prevent dryness and flaking. Before using them, test them behind your ears, then around your eyes, and leave them overnight to see if there are any adverse effects.

Stay hydrated. If you want a healthy complexion, drink water. Skin that lacks moisture produces more oil. Your skin can benefit from staying hydrated.

Tips

  • Use a pH-balancing cleanser or toner after cleansing. You don’t have to wait an hour, your skin’s pH will return to normal quickly.
  • Aging skin usually requires more care.
  • During puberty and menopause, the entire body is strongly affected by hormones. This can also affect your skin.
  • Your skin is part of you. It can be affected by a variety of factors, including the environment, the products you use, stress, diet, lifestyle, and more. These factors can cause changes in skin type, so keep this in mind.
  • The T zone refers to the forehead, nose, and chin. It is called the T-zone because the forehead, nose, and chin join together to form a T-shape.
  • Once you figure out your skin type, try exfoliating. Exfoliating products remove dead skin, unclog pores, and sometimes even make them appear smaller. It can only be used two or three times a week.
  • The most important thing is to stay healthy.
  • Don’t wash your face too much, otherwise the natural oils will be lost and the skin will become too dry. Wash your face no more than 3 times a day, and remember to moisturize after each wash.
  • Sometimes acne around the mouth and chin is due to menstruation. These pimples only need to be treated with some ointment.
